A growth spurt is a short period, usually a few days, when a baby grows faster than usual and may seem hungrier, want to feed more often and be fussier or sleep differently. They can happen at any time but are often noticed in the first weeks and months.
What you can do
- Feed your baby on demand; extra feeds help meet the need.
- Keep routines steady and offer extra comfort.
When to talk to your doctor
If increased hunger or fussiness lasts more than about a week, or your baby is not gaining weight or seems unwell, talk to your doctor.
