Overtiredness is a state in which a baby has been awake too long and becomes harder to settle. Overtired babies are often fussy and wired, may fight sleep and can sleep for shorter stretches.

What you can do

  • Watch for early tired signs such as yawning, staring or losing interest.
  • Start the wind-down routine at the first signs.
  • Use extra soothing, such as rocking or white noise, when your baby is overtired.
