Room-sharing means a baby sleeps in their parents' room on a separate sleep surface, such as a cot, crib or bassinet. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends room-sharing, ideally for at least the first 6 months, because it lowers the risk of SIDS.
What you can do
- Place the cot or bassinet close to your bed.
- Use a firm, flat mattress with a fitted sheet and nothing else in the cot.
- Bring your baby into your bed for feeds, then return them to their own sleep space.
