Sensory sensitivity is a stronger than usual reaction to sensory input, such as loud sounds, bright lights, certain food textures, clothing labels or being touched. It can make everyday situations overwhelming for a child.
What you can do
- Notice which situations are hard and prepare your child in advance.
- Offer tag-free clothing and ear defenders for noisy places if needed.
- Introduce new textures and sounds gradually, without pressure.
When to talk to your doctor
Talk to your doctor if sensitivities seriously limit your child's eating, sleep or daily activities, or come with other developmental concerns.
