Sitting is a baby holding themselves upright, first with support and then on their own. The CDC lists sitting without support as a milestone by 9 months; many babies sit with a little help from around 6 months.
What you can do
- Practise on the floor with cushions around your baby.
- Place toys in front and to the sides to encourage balance.
- Keep up tummy time to strengthen the core.
When to talk to your doctor
Talk to your doctor if your baby cannot sit without support by 9 months, or seems very floppy or stiff.
